TPA3001D1 Power Amplifier

Recently we looked for a replacement class-D power amplifier to replace my old TDA2030 power amplifier build . While searching for a suitable power amplifier IC, we found TPA3001D1 from the local market. This IC is a slightly older 20W Class-D power amplifier manufactured by Texas Instruments . At the time of this writing, it is priced at LKR 180 (0.89 USD) in the local market and is still available at all major electronics stores (including online stores ). Prototype version of TPA3001D1 power amplifier. To minimize assembling difficulties, we used through-hole-type components in this PCB. The only SMD component in this PCB is the TPA3001D1 IC. We installed the power amplifier IC on the bottom of the PCB because then it would receive good airflow. The table below lists all the components required for this project. Designator Quantity Value C1 , C8 , C13 , C14 , C15 , C16  6  1µF/25V C17  1  10µF/25V ...

100W AF dummy load

This is a quick post to showcase 100W 4 channel AF dummy load which we build to test the output stages of audio power amplifiers. This dummy load use 4, 8Ω 100W wire wound resistors which are available on eBay . In this unit, all 4 resistors are mounted on 170mm × 40mm × 60mm high gauge aluminum heat sink. A prototype version of the 100W AF dummy load. It costs LKR1200 to build this unit and the most expensive component in this unit are wire wound resistors. At the time of writing these 100W resistor packs are available on eBay for USD $6.00.

SL414 Vintage power amplifier IC

SL414 is combined audio preamplifier and power amplifier IC manufactured by National semiconductors in early days. This amplifier is designed to operate in 10V to a 20V range and deliver 3W (R.M.S) audio output power into the 7.5Ω load. The frequency bandwidth of this IC is between 30Hz to 18kHz and with the 8Ω load, it produces 0.5% T.H.D on 3W. The most uncommon feature of this IC is its EP-10 package. This EP-10 package is common to most of the SL4xx series amplifiers and thanks to its inbuilt screw it is really easy to attach heat-sinks to these ICs. EP-10 package of SL414 audio amplifier IC. During our prototyping, we try several SL414 amplifiers and most of them give quite satisfactory results to us. Link to most stable SL414 design is available at the bottom of this article. As per our experiments, to archive best results it is mandatory to build this amplifier on PCB with screened wires. Also to get the good results to make sure to drive this amplifier with a regulat...

32W Hi-Fi Audio Power Amplifier using TDA2050

In this project we develop 32W hi-fi audio power amplifier using TDA2050 integrated circuit. The main objective of this project is to provide common high gain audio amplifier for DIY kind of projects. In this given PCB pattern, both the power amplifier and PSU are limited to the 53mm x 65mm printed circuit board. This circuit is design to work with 15V – 18V (AC) supply voltage and it is highly recommended to use suitable step down toroidal transformer with this system. All the PCB patterns and schematic diagrams of this project are available to download in google drive .

Ultra Simple Stereo Computer Speaker Driver

In this project we design miniature stereo computer speaker driver using TDA2822 power amplifier IC. Main goal of this project is to design small stereo power amplifier which may be able to fix inside the small speaker boxes. Supplied PCB of this project has dimensions of 4.5cm × 4.5cm, which include both power amplifier and PSU. Some of important technical specifications of this project are listed in below, Recommended Supplied Voltage : 5V – 9V AC Output Power : (with 8Ω load and 7.5V AC Power Source) : 2 × 1W Voltage Gain (with feedback) at 1kHz input signal : 38.5dB Total Harmonic Distortion : (with 8Ω load and P 0 = 150mW) 0.2% Channel Separation : 50dB When wiring the project it is recommended to place screen-wires to the input terminals of amplifier and keep them separate (away) from AC power lines and transformer unit(s). It is not necessary to install heatsinks to TDA2822M IC (with given input and output parameters). Complete schematic, PCB design and documen...

20W Hi-Fi Audio Power Amplifier

TDA2030 is most popular, high quality - low cost audio power amplifier and successive version of TDA2006. Typically TDA2030 deliver 14W in 24V with 4&#8486 output load and 8W in 8&#8486 output load. Because of it’s wider power bandwidth (10Hz to 140 kHz) and extremely small amount of distortion (0.1% - 0.5%), TDA2030 deliver excellent sound quality with higher performance. In this project we design basic version of TDA2030 mono power amplifier for general use and its design to work with 9V – 24V (500mA) Power Supply Unit. When building the circuit it is recommended to use PCB design and its important to attach suitable heat-sink to the TDA2030. In this design it is not necessary to have electrical isolation between the IC and the heat-sink. To get the complete circuit diagrams and PCB designs (Eagle) please check the google drive .
